How it works

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Eastern medical art that utilizes the placement of sterilized, pre-packaged, very fine needles into specific acupoints along meridian channels found on the surface of the skin. Meridians are channels filled with a vital life energy called Qi (chee). When there is blockage along a channel, Qi becomes obstructed (think damming a river) and pressure builds in the area. Subsequently, other areas become depleted of Qi. Not only do acupuncture treatments address the symptoms that an individual experiences, but also the source of this Qi imbalance in the meridians. When this source is located and corrected, your body can begin to heal on the deepest levels.

What happens at a session?

After you complete the intake form we review it together and talk about the main condition(s) you want addressed. Please bring loose fitting, comfortable shorts and a tank top to change into, which will make it easiest to access points. After changing I examine your tongue and pulse, and palpate the abdomen and areas of the meridians which may correspond to your complaints. Next I insert the needles, and at this point most patients begin to enter a state of deep relaxation. With the needles in their appropriate places you will be left to rest rest a short time.

How many visits are required?

Acute conditions generally take a shorter course of treatment: 3-6 consecutive weekly visits or even less in some cases. However, with some chronic disorders– even though significant results will most likely be felt right away– it may take several months of sessions before the symptoms are completely resolved.
